Benchmarking Object Databases |
| Author: |
Alexandre de Spindler |
| Abstract: |
Relational systems have been exposed to performance evaluations and benchmarking by means of a variety of standardised benchmarks. However, object databases cannot profit from these benchmarks as they tend to be tailored to the relational model. Therefore, benchmarks have been developed which highlight the strengths of object database. In the scope of a student laboratory project, we have developed a benchmark framework which allows for arbitrary storage providers to be integrated by means of a simple interface, and for benchmark configurations to be specified and loaded. The selection of storage providers, benchmark configurations, their execution, evaluation and comparison can be carried out by means of a graphical user interface. |

Deductive Object Database Prototype |
| Author: |
Arturs Licis and Mikus Vanags |
| Abstract: |
Expert systems are one of the best artificial intelligence solutions, and deductive database is a technical tool for creating them. Many different expert systems and deductive databases exist, but most of them use their own syntax which is not comfortable to use together with modern object oriented languages. The solution proposed is based on combination of modern object-oriented programming language syntax, logic programming, and object database solution to create deductive object database (hereafter DOD) that could be used together with object oriented programming design patterns and even functional programming. |

Eclipse Distributed Data Modeling |
| Author: |
Eike Stepper |
| Abstract: |
Modeling is often seen as merely a discipline of the formal development process or as a sound basis for implementing tools. This session will highlight the unparalled value of data modeling as an integral aspect of a target application's runtime. The Eclipse Modeling ecosystem is centered around EMF (Eclipse Modeling Framework). Around this core, the CDO Model Repository (Connected Data Objects) provides a robust, highly scalable, distributed architecture for running applications. Both frameworks have been available open source for more than seven years. They are mature and widely adopted. |
Best Objects and Databases Lecture Notes Award 2010 Ceremony
ODBMS.ORG has issued the "Best Objects and Databases Lecture Notes" Award 2010, for the most complete and up to date lecture notes on Objects and Databases, that have been, or have strong potential to be, instrumental to the teaching of theory and practice in the field of objects and databases.
Any Lecture Notes published in ODBMS.ORG during the years 2004–2010 is eligible for the 2010 award, under the following categories:
ODBMS Lecture Notes. OO Lecture Notes. DB Lecture Notes. NoSQL Lecture Notes.
The best Best Object Databases Lecture Notes will be selected by an independent panel consisting of selected members of the ODBMS.ORG Experts Board, composed of:
- Prof. Suad Alagic, University of Southern Maine, USA
- Prof. Dr. Alfonso F. Cárdenas, UCLA, USA
- Leon Guzenda, Objectivity, USA
- John McHugh, Progress Software, USA
- Prof. Renzo Orsini, University of Venice, Italy
- Prof. Tore J.M. Risch, University of Uppsala, Sweden
- Prof. Nicolas Spyratos, University of Paris South, France
- Prof. Roberto V. Zicari, Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany.
The award consists of a plaque presented at the ICOODB 2010 conference in Frankfurt on September 29, 2010.
